De Quiros Says He Loves Cory, And I Feel Like Throwing Up

I was pleasantly surprised that the open letter that I wrote and posted yesterday is going around various email groups. Thank you to those who forwarded it to others.

That was a very long post, so I will try to do a short blog today.

I have stopped agreeing with Conrado de Quiros a long time ago, but I continue to read him every now and then (actually, I scan through his column in the PDI, and then decide if it is worth reading or not – usually not! This is a man who has become bitter and grumpy in his old age).

But his column today was hilarious because he ended it with "what can I say, I love Cory!" referring to Cory Aquino. I was tempted to bring out my copies of de Quiros’ books (compilations of his PDI columns) which contain essays where he actually called Cory a lot of names (and they were not endearing), lambasted her for incompetence, and in general came this short of calling her boba and tanga (I actually believe he did).

And today, because they are on the same side, he professes affection?

Talk about being principled!

I used to read CdQ in PDI too...but eversince he wrote all negative aspects of the GMA government in all his writeups...I stopped reading already...what's with CdQ anyway? He hates GMA like she is the worst person in the Planet! I can only think of 2 reasons , he is in another tradpol's payroll or he has some favors he wanted from GMA but did not get it so he kept on bashing her, day in and day out, lucky for him, if it was Marcos sitting right now...he would just dissappear without a trace...

CDQ is the most sanctimonius, presumptuous, puffed-up columnist this part of the world. Truly, he has the power of making readers want to throw up. He writes mostly to impress : overfilling his grumblings with flatulent metaphors and rhetoric to 'sound' cerebral and genuinely thoughtful. Yes, he is just a grumpy, old man.

Amen!

CDQ's column is not even worth a glance anymore. He has become so vindictive to GMA.

remember his column last campaign regarding FPJ and NOLI? the title went something like :What The Philippines will be with FPJ as President and Noli as Vice President" (something like that), then he left the column blank. With his opinions nowadays, I guess he would have preferred Susan Roces over her hubby(sumalangit nawa).

If there will ever be a major overhaul of the Supreme Court and I have the opportunity to vote who to put in, I will nominate both De Quiros and Randy David. They are so "holier-than-everybody" and without any doubt whatsover with their convictions. They would certainly know how to clear the backlog of pending cases in record time.

It's nice to know that I am in good company when I stopped reading CdQ even before GMA. Were it not for the other columnists, I would have totally ignored PDI. The same goes for Randy David. There is so much anger in their hearts that they are unable to write objectively.
Siguro dapat sa kanila punta na lang sila sa ibang bansa na wala yung hate figure nila. They are both good wordsmiths and they maybe be able to convince other people.

What's with all the hatred against CDQ? One may not agree with him in every issue but you have to give him props for his consistency throughout the years.

CDQ is a rarity among Pinoy pundits for being able to balance his aspirations for a better Philippines without being dismissive or condenscending to the frailties of the common Pinoy. He may have changed his political position over the years but the guy has been consistent with his humanist convictions. HE REALLY LOVES THE PINOY AND THE PHILIPPINES and that's more than you can say of the politicins you guys seem to defend. He is angry, yes, but he is also hopeful and optimistic of what the Pinoy can achieve.

CDQ is one writer who's able to engage, provoke and inspire his readers on the important issues of the day. He may be sanctimonious (who cares?)or pa-thoughtful, but name any other Pinoy columnist who is able to achieve what CDQ has over the years and you would be hard-pressed to find an equal. This maybe overstating it, but CDQ has made column-reading 'cool' among middle class Pinoys.

Pagtanda ko gusto ko pa ding maging katulad ni Conrado De Quiros. Galit sa mundo, dahil maraming rason para magalit. May paninindigan, at hindi kailanman tatalikuran ang mga ito.

I'd rather be called 'angry' and 'grumpy' in my old age than be a sellout.

a lot of people may be upset with how CDQ writes. well that's their right. personally, it's only CDQ that i read in this part of the planet. i just find other columnists boring and too plain. what can i say, i love CDQ! hehe

CDQ tackles topics no one around us dare to give a damn. maybe he didnt like cory back then for her incompetency. now, cory is just a "citizen". he doesnt want GMA right now for her incompetancy. she like cory right now because of her political righteousness advocacy.

in short, CDQ didnt like cory back then not as a person but as an incompetent leader. he likes cory right now as a person.

as for me, i just dont like GMA and her family as persons and leaders, not their incompetency, because they are not. but because of "over competency" that gave them almost godlike powers in this ailing nation. they are the political versions of circus jugglers and mimes. able to control their faces to cover the rotten insides, and able to steadily keep people afloat so that they continue to stay in power.

as for CDQ, maybe he just dont want any incompetancies in the government, what more, plunder and widespread violation of human rights. maybe he can well perceive things that most of us can only dream of seeing.

hail to the great CDQ.
